This is the story about a boy and his roundie. Trying to bring it back to its former glory, one project at a time. The car is a 1968 BMW 2002. It was the first year this car was produced. So far it's been the most fun car I've ever owned

Once I brought her home.
I had her towed home about 35 miles from the North Hills (thank God for AAA 100 mile tow coverage). The tow truck driver was an armenian dude and he didn't seem to be as convinced as I was that the roundie was worth restoring (not that it needs that much work either!). Another thing worth mentioning is that the car didn't have a key and could be started with a screwdriver. I didn't really want to have a screwdriver hanging from my steering column on account of that its an easy way of having a cop pull you out of the car with a gun in your face. So I set out on my quest to find a new ignition switch and thats when the cold reality hit me. Some parts are really f**king expensive. Luckily, there was a bag of miscellanous parts in the trunk. Upon examination of this stuff I found the original lock and tumbler for the ignition switch, so I took it to a local locksmith and he made me a key for it. The problem here is that it wasn't an original BMW or even a typical replacement key. It looked like a small padlock key and it wasn't very impressive to tell the truth. Next I searched Ebay for replacement door handles for the Roundie which would come with their own keys. I found A nice set and ended up paying about 70 bucks for the handles and a ignition lock which is about a 3rd of the price that you'd find elsewhere. When I got the parts though, I realized that the lock and tumbler didnt fit in my column, installing the handles was an ordeal in itself as well. With a little help from Juan from 2002AD in Pomona the door handles were finally installed. I then took the lock and tumbler that i had and had my locksmith modify the tumbler to accept the new keyset that I had and now I had one key for the ignition and the door handles which I am very happy about. More to come, still sick and still going crazy

begin at the begining
I'm a bit late on this first post, but better late than never.
I purchased the roundie from a guy named David in North Hills (San Fernando Valley), he had listed this little car a few time previously on Craigslist and it was always a bit more than I could afford. Apparently not that many others could afford it at that price either because he kept relisting it. Finally the price was lowered another 500 bucks and I thought I'd make my move. I contacted David, who ended up being a pretty young guy, and arranged a test drive. I had already seen a pretty informative video he had posted on you tube http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lLkBWS-t-T8 so I was pretty much ready to drop the hammer on this deal. I ended up getting her for a fair price, however there were some items conveniently not brought up and maybe some just a bit untrue. for instance, I had asked if the wipers worked, and just needed the wiper arms, David said that the motor worked and it just needed the arms, weeks later i took the motor out and realized it hadn't been used in years, so thats one thing, also I asked about the temperature gauge, and he said that worked as well. That would be hard to do considerening, A) the wire from the sensor was cut, and B) the sensor itself was dead. But I let all of that slide for one main reason, well actually two. The first being that I could probably fix all of that eventually and second and more importantly the car drives like hell. It seriously is a little beast. I also had to tow this little beast home, on account of its super old cracked tires it was running, I probably could've driven it home but I probably would've had a blow out and that might've been the end of it and me. This is it for now, but more again real soon,,,maybe even later tonight, i'm fighting a cold and i'm going nuts right now.
